Back in 2017, a Dane named a knife after Ernest Hemingway’s 38-foot fishing boat, Pilar. That knifemaker, Jesper Voxnaes, modeled the folding, cleaver-reminiscent blade on the sort of blade he imagined the novelist kept at his hip while aboard.
It’s one of the many iconic EDC pocket knives to come from Oregon-based industry leaders CRKT (that’s Columbia River Knife & Tool, for the uninitiated), and lucky for all of us, the Pilar’s once again on sale. This time, with a larger blade.
For a limited-time run, you can snag the Pilar Large from Massdrop for just $35. The 2.7-inch blade comes in stainless steel (or black oxide for an extra $14) and features either stainless steel or G-10 handles. The knife offers a wide thumb hole, alongside a handy reversible clip. Whether you’re a pocket knife purist, or just getting into the game now, this one’s a layup.
And if you’re wondering what Massdrop is — it’s a members-only retail site that runs 5-7 day sales on high-quality goods. Just set up an email account and you’ll be able to buy the knife (and anything else you see while perusing their well-curated coffers).
