The Titanic II will make its maiden voyage all over again in 2022, retracing the original ship’s doomed trip from England to New York.
Before the Blue Star Liner replica journeys over the North Atlantic Ocean, it will take a trip originating a bit further east — from Dubai to South Hampton, England.
Construction of the lookalike ship was stalled but recently resumed after a “financial dispute held up the $500 million project for several years,” USA Today reported.
The ship’s cabins will feature the same layout as the 1912 version, which sunk on April 12, just three hours after colliding with an iceberg. The ship will also feature a near identical number of passengers (2,400) and crew (900).
As an upgrade, the Titanic II will not feature the same navigation system as its predecessor and will be stocked with plenty of lifeboats.
