Over the years, J.Crew and New Balance have trotted out a number of collaborations worthy of your closet. But how many iterations of NB’s relatively staid styles can they create without scraping the bottom of the barrel?
The latest take on the New Balance 1400 that was just released proves they’ve got a ways to go yet, by offering an aesthetic that may have escaped your sneaker collection until now: suede colorblocking.
We’re talking classic navy, forest green, golden tan, subtle wheat and a clean grey all artfully splayed out across the upper in a sneaker that can act as the focal point of any fit, or the inspiration you need to get out of your monochromatic doldrums. To top it off, this shoe harkens back to the beginnings of J.Crew’s long partnership with NB, as it was the first base sneaker they used to collaborate. As both a contemporary standout and a throwback, it’s already starting to sell out in a few sizes.
