Around Buffalo, from where Rob Gronkowski hails, the New England Patriots star is remembered as perhaps the best athlete that Williamsville North High School ever produced. There was an unofficial “Gronk-O-Meter” that read on a scale of 1 to 10 and it measured the star athlete’s frustration during games. He was a tight end and a defensive end, a center for the basketball team, and a first baseman on his baseball team who could launch the ball for what seemed like miles. What you see him do on the field while playing for the New England Patriots was perhaps even great back then, relatively speaking, when the disparity between hi and his competition was incredibly wide, writes Sports Illustrated. One game, Gronk scored all of Williamsville North’s points — “a touchdown catch, a fumble recovery returned half the length of the field for a touchdown, and a sack in the end zone for a safety.” During a basketball game, he went up for a dunk and came down with the rim in his hands. Gronk is currently probably the second-best player on the Patriots team, and supporters back home are optimistic he’ll play in Super Bowl LII after sustaining a concussion during the game against the Jaguars. For years, Buffalo high school teams had Gronk on their rosters, and they’re ready to watch him play in the biggest football game of the year.
