U.S. Cross-Country Skiers Win Historic Gold Medal

Kikkan Randall and Jessie Diggins have not only won an Olympic gold medal, but they’ve made history. The two are the first American women to win a medal ever at the Games in cross-country skiing. They beat runner-up Sweden by .19 seconds down the stretch, while Norway got bronze after finishing almost three seconds back. Randall and Diggins are not among only three American skiers to win Olympic medals in the sport. Bill Koch won silver 42 years ago at the Innsbruck Games. During the final leg of the race, Diggins had fallen back to third, but she sprinted home to pull off the victory.

“I just felt unstoppable, I am in the best shape of my life right now for sure,” Diggins said according to USA Today. “That feeling of crossing the line and having Kikkan tackle me was the coolest thing ever.”
