On Thursday, September 6, the first of the 256 regular-season NFL games of the 2018-19 season will be played when the Philadelphia Eagles take on the Atlanta Falcons in Philly.
To select that game and the schedule that accompanies it, league employees combed through 59,031 possible schedules that a computer generated and finally settled on the 58,911th.
At first glance, it looks like Fox will be very happy with their selection.
After inking a deal to three-year deal to broadcast “Thursday Night Football” for approximately $660 million annually, Fox may have gotten an immediate return on their investment as their 11-game slate appears to be pretty solid (at least as of this writing) and has a good mix of marquee teams, rivalry games and divisional matchups.
Here it is: Vikings at Rams, Colts at Patriots, Eagles at Giants, Broncos at Cards, Dolphins at Texans, Raiders at Niners, Panthers at Steelers, Packers at Seahawks, Saints at Cowboys, Jags at Titans and Chargers at Chiefs.
For comparison, here’s what ESPN got for “Monday Night Football”: Jets at Lions, Rams at Raiders, Seahawks at Bears, Steelers at Buccaneers, Chiefs at Broncos, Redskins at Saints, 49ers at Packers, Giants at Falcons, Patriots at Bills, Titans at Cowboys, Giants at 49ers, Chiefs at Rams, Titans at Texans, Redskins at Eagles, Vikings at Seahawks, Saints at Panthers and Broncos at Raiders.
Not bad, but having the Titans, Broncos and Redskins twice each doesn’t seem all that smart.
