LeBron James Opens Up About Why He Joined the Lakers
"This is kind of like a dream come true for me," James said.
After signing LeBron James at the start of free agency, Magic Johnson wasn’t shy about sharing the story of how he lured The King to Los Angeles.
Now, on his “Uninterrupted” online platform, James is finally sharing his side of the story.
In a video that posted over the weekend, James talked at length about what motivated him to join the Los Angeles Lakers in what could be the final stop of his historic NBA career.
Though he said the move to LA from his hometown state of Ohio is “bittersweet” because he just opened a school in Akron, James called becoming a Laker “a dream come true.”
“Growing up I was a Cowboys fan, a Bulls fan, a Yankees fan, and I’ve always felt like that was one of the historic franchises,” he said. “And you look at the Lakers, being able to play for a historic franchise with so much history and being able to partner with Magic Johnson, someone I looked up to when I was younger. I wanted to make no-look passes like Magic, wanted get on the break and be Showtime like Magic. And for it all to come to fruition at this point, I think timing is everything.”
The timing of landing James couldn’t be any better for the Lakers as the 33-year-old perennial All-Star is coming off a ridiculous season where he averaged career highs of 8.6 rebounds and 9.1 assists per game as well as scored 27.5 points. Even more amazing, James played in every game.
