Stephen Colbert slammed Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Tuesday night, telling her that if she didn’t want to answer questions about President Trump’s controversial policy separating immigrant children from their parents, she can quit.

“Hucka-Sands didn’t want to do the briefing amid questions about Trump’s child-separation policy…listen up. You don’t get to tag out here, Sarah,” Colbert said. “‘Cause it’s not really you out there. You’re just Donald Trump’s mouthpiece — or whatever part the lies come out of. And it’s not personal…you’re just the vehicle.”

Sanders opted out of answering press questions about the policy on Tuesday, with Homeland Security secretary Kirstjen Nielsen stepping in to run the press conference. But Colbert told Sanders that if she wanted out that badly, she doesn’t have to ask for people to fill in and do her job for her.

“If kids in cages is too much for you to defend, there is one option: You could resign! This is the White House, not an abandoned Walmart. You’re allowed to leave.”
