Saturday Night Live returned from its winter hiatus last night (Jan. 25), and naturally, the show tackled the impeachment trial in its cold open — with a twist. Former cast member Jon Lovitz returned to the show to play Alan Dershowitz, who rehearses his defense of Trump with Susan Collins (Cecily Strong) and Mitch McConnell (Beck Bennett) before being transported to hell.

It’s there in the underworld that he is reunited with his former client, Jeffrey Epstein, played by host Adam Driver. The sketch cracks a few jokes about the circumstances of Epstein’s death, and he tells the devil (played by Kate McKinnon) that she appears to him as “a woman my own age.”

Of course, it wasn’t the only evil-doer Driver played on the episode; he also reprised his Kylo-Ren-on-UndercoverBoss sketch, with the leader of the First Order going undercover this time as an intern named Randy. Driver also used his monologue to poke fun at his intense persona and appeared as an over-enthusiastic Medieval Times performer later in the show.
