Dad bods are not a laughing matter. Just ask science.
Three years after the term “dad bod” was coined as a jokey term of endearment for guys who sport telltale beer bellies but come up short on muscle tone, new studies, reports Fatherly, suggest that such physical conditions are unhealthy for the pudgy man – as well as his future kids.
A “lack of exercise and presence of belly fat can have health implications for a man’s children,” notes the parenting publication. It cited lab research to support the claim. One cellular study looked at how a man’s weight affects the genetic information in his sperm. And a study of mice found that “sedentary mouse-dads … had offspring with decreased metabolic health.”
And there’s more where that research came from suggesting that dad bods should be a source of concern, not comedy.
