Promontory Point
Walk through the 55th Lake Shore underpass for a pre-dinner stroll to the Point. Located in Burnham Park, you’ll want to hit the rocks that surround the castle-looking Field House. The Museum of Science and Industry will be just south, and – around the bend past the concrete benches – the best skyline views in the city await. Prep with a glance at the map.

Make an early dinner reservation at A10, the new restaurant from Matthias Merges (Yusho and Billy Sunday) and the latest toast of Hyde Park’s dining scene. Decked out in vintage textiles that hang from exposed brick walls, A10 hawks elevated French Italian cuisine. You don’t have to order the pork jowl bacon burger, but you won’t be dissapointed if you do.
Harper Theatre
End the night with a flick around the corner at the newly reopened Harper Theater. This multiplex first opened as a Vaudeville theater in 1913, and has since been beautifully renovated. It’s latest incarnation includes a café and top-notch facilities. Take her to see the riveting 12 Years a Slave. Intense historical dramas about one man’s unflagging perseverance in the face of insurmountable odds not her thing? There’s always Thor.
