Anthony Scaramucci — otherwise known as “The Mooch” — is now infamous for his brief, yet newsworthy 10 days in the White House. Axios writes that he walked into Dee Angelo’s restaurant in Westhampton Beach, NY on Saturday and diners cheered and people asked for pictures.
Meanwhile, back at the White House, aides are still discussing his antics during his reign as communications director. Reporter Jonathan Swan put together some of his favorite stories from the ones he has heard.
- Scaramucci said during a communications staff meeting that he was going to fire everybody but then moments later saying “but I don’t want to, I want to bring everyone together.”
- The Mooch hated leakers. He would “rail against leakers” during communications staff meetings and once, he told the team about how he used to own an ice cream shop. He suspected the guy who managed the shop was stealing money. The moral of the story? “I always find out.” The guy was stealing and he was fired. However, Scaramucci said that even if he fires someone on the communications team, he will help them find a job somewhere else.
- Scaramucci sometimes wouldn’t answer staff members’ questions about policy because he said it would leak.
- Aides said that The Mooch was a man battling an addiction to media attention. He would walk around saying “I’m stopping with the TV. No more TV. Gotta keep a lower profile today.” But then a few hours later he would hold an impromptu press conference or go on air.
- Scaramucci would draw diagrams for people who visited his office — such as a circle around President Trump and his own name and then a line connecting them, so that he showed he reported directly to the president.
