Roger Ailes, the former CEO and chairman of Fox News, has died at 77, according to the network. Fox News published a statement by his widow, Elizabeth Ailes, announcing that her husband had died early Thursday.

“I am profoundly sad and heartbroken to report that my husband, Roger Ailes, passed away this morning,” the statement said. “During a career that stretched over more than five decades, his work in entertainment, in politics, and in news affected the lives of many millions. And so even as we mourn his death, we celebrate his life.”

Ailes was pushed out of Fox News in July 2016 over extensive allegations of sexual harassment after leading the network for 20 years.
