Each week, our inbox runneth over with news of gear, apparel and tech releases from around the world. In this feature, we’ll parse through the best of them. Today: Rumpl’s first home collection of Australian merino blankets, Patrón releases a sherry cask-aged liquor, and Vans take a page out of classic horror cinema for some scary-good shoes.
Great Jones King Sear
At the moment, 12-inch enameled cast-iron skillets from the two iconic French brands who own the category (that’d be Le Creuset and Staub) can be had for $210. Are they expensive? Of course. Are they worth it? Certainly. Enter: Great Jones, a direct-to-consumer cookware brand that just released its first cast-iron skillet and decided to open with an enameled option that’s $100 less than the leaders. It features two tiny pour spouts, a generous handle and a helper handle for maneuvering, and three colors (blueberry, broccoli and mustard, or blue, green and yellow for Gen X and older).
Wilson Dearborn Tailgater Pant
To the unassuming observer, these trousers might just look like your average, tech-influenced khaki. That’s where you’d be dead wrong. Wilson has created a pant so innovative that it threatens to change a whole ecosystem. Yes, the whole tailgating biome is in for a radical revolution: the beer pocket. These Dearborn Tailgater Pants have a built in beer cozy strapped to the leg of these bottoms, making a casual stroll with drink in
hand pocket a reality, not every frat bro’s fantasy. Purchase at your own risk — these are guaranteed to bring you right back to being a 22-year-old.
The James Brand x Timex Watch
The best Timex collab in recent memory, this 41mm brushed titanium watch is a product of a partnership with Portland’s elegant knifemaker The James Brand. Like that company’s proprietary tools, this watch is simple, but deliberate in its simplicity. See: the aforementioned case material, automatic movement, well-balanced dial and color accent on the crown. Unfortunately, it sold out within hours of going up for sale this week. But as we’ve seen with Todd Snyder, successful collaborations can lead to more down the road, so keep an eye on these two.
Rumpl Merino Wool Blanket Collection
Rumpl’s collection of camping blankets has always served us well outdoors, but the Oregon label has since released its first blanket collection designed exclusively for the home. The latest additions include throws for the couch and larger blankets for the bedroom, all of which embrace a blend of Australian Merino wool and organic cotton. Reversible designs feature minimal detailing in four colorways, ensuring you’ll find one that fits your style in time for the cooler weather to come.
Reebok x National Geographic Nano X1
Reebok’s second collaboration with National Geographic comes hot on the heels of the collection that dropped last month. This time around, the versatile Nano X1 receives a plant-based performance upgrade courtesy of vegan materials. The Flexweave knit complements a foam base made from castor beans. Natural styling elements represent Nat Geo’s dedication to the environment, and a QR code on the tongue transports you to a unique online product experience. Reebok Unlocked members receive early access to this limited-edition trainer before it becomes available to the general public.
Harry’s x Ghostly Set
An unusual collaboration between the shaving brand and music label Ghostly International, this razor features a glow-in-the-dark handle and its own playlist (linked via a QR code).
Noah Cross Country Collection
Noah NY are one of the hype-y-est brands around (hypest? most hyped?), and their recently released Cross Country collection is the perfect illustration of why. Understated, immaculately crafted and decked out in sick iconography, these jawns are as much a fashionhead’s dream as they are a runner’s. No guarantee the Cross Country Blazer or Cross Country Shetland Sweater will actually make you faster, but hey, when you’re that swagged out, how much jogging is really going on?
KASSL Editions Pillow Sofa 3-Seater
Pillow couch! We repeat, pillow couch! KASSL Editions, a European design house with an eye for chic, modern cuts, has teamed up with Belgian Muller Van Severen to craft furniture that meets directly at the intersection of minimalism and puffiness. Part of KASSL’s ongoing ReMade project, the couch is modular by nature, and can accommodate end caps or extra seats: it also comes in 1-pillow and 2-pillow units.
Soundcore Liberty 3 Pro
Anker’s audio brand just launched these mid-priced earbuds, which offer personalized noise cancellation and up to 32 hours of playtime (with the wireless charger). As well, they support LDAC, a new-ish Sony technology that delivers hi-res wireless audio … without Sony’s higher prices. (Plus, these earbuds are currently an extra $20 for a few more days.)
Vans x Horror Collection
There’s nothing scary about the Vans x Horror collection except for how quickly it’s flying of (virtual) shelves. The multi-piece collaboration between the iconic skate company and a slew of classics ranging from The Shining to It to Gremlins features apparel and footwear alike, just in time for the spooky season. Our favorites are the bloody Nightmare On Elm Street Sk8 HI and the very ’80s The Lost Boys Style 47 Creepers.
Patrón Sherry Cask Añejo
Finally, the tequila world has figured out that secondary barrel maturation can bring out a lot of new flavors. Here, Patrón is taking their añejo and aging it a step further, adding two years time in Oloroso Sherry casks. The result features dry fruit on the palate, along with notes of pear and pecans; it works exceptionally well in cocktails that you wouldn’t necessarily associate with tequila (we tried it in a mule variation that we love).
