Because every Angeleno loves to eat, even if he has to valet, we bring you Table Stakes: a series that answers man’s eternally recurring question (“Uh, what’s new?”), and recurs once every lunar cycle or so. Bon appétit.

Everyone’s got their spot.

You know: first-name basis, every third drink free and your favorite dish waiting as if Ma herself were manning the galley.

This month’s Table Stakes is a paean to the neighborhood spot: six restaurants with a good bar, consistent cuisine and a casual vibe.

Should you go if you live near one of these? Definitely. Should you go if you find yourself near them? Yes. Should you hop in your car and drive across town for them? That’s your call, man.

But you can count on good things waiting for you, like:

  • A beachside gastropub serving up Eastern-infused comfort food
  • A wine bar and market with incredibly tasty charcuterie plates
  • A place that makes a fried cauliflower so addictive it might send you to rehab

It’s all good in the ‘hood, gents.
