Level Low-Cost Flights to Spain

Where are all these budget airlines coming from? Another day, another deal: Today comes news that Spanish airline Level is flying from two West Coast cities — Oakland and L.A. — to Barcelona. Level will have some fancy branding but you’ll recognize its sister companies: Aer Lingus, British Airways and Vueling, all of which are owned by travel conglomerate IAG. If you happen to be on the road, they’ll also be flying from Barcelona to Punta Cana and Buenos Aires.

Tickets: $149 each way (while they last). What you’ll get: a seat. Room in the overhead compartment. What you won’t: “meals, drinks, preferred seat selection and wi-fi access will incur an additional cost.” Think: middle seats, carry-on snacks and a shopping bag full of Evian. There are worse things. The seat pitch isn’t overly generous (30 inches) given the flight time, but — eh, it’s $149. Just buy some compression socks, and you’re fine.
