The Indianapolis Colts are hoping to get lucky in regard to their star quarterback’s retirement.

Though the Colts could recoup almost $25 million from Andrew Luck following his surprise retirement on Saturday night, the club has waived its right to recoup the money, and Luck will keep it all, according to ESPN.

Luck had offered to return some of the $24.8 million he’s already been paid out in bonus money, but Indianapolis owner Jim Irsay declined the offer. It’s a gesture of goodwill to the 29-year-old, but also a calculated move that keeps the door open for him to return to the team at some point down the line, Yahoo Sports reports.

Irsay hinted the team would welcome Luck back should he change his mind once his body heals from the pounding it has taken over his seven years in the NFL.

“This is an unusual situation,” Irsay said at a press conference. “We see Tiger Woods come back and win The Masters. We see different things — Michael Jordan retire and unretire. In this case we just wish him the best and maybe that he finds some clarity and maybe, again, he’s just going to be 30 years old late next summer or right around there. So, obviously he has to find his way.”

By retiring now, Luck, who has earned nearly $100 million, is giving up the $58.125 million that is left on his contract.

No matter what happens, RIP to the Capt. Andrew Luck Twitter account, for now.
