Artificial gills? Not a real — or even possible — thing.
Air in a bottle so you can breathe underwater, however? That's now a reality.
Just launched on Kickstarter, Scorkl is lightweight, eminently portable scuba tank about the size and shape of a water bottle. It's good for about 10 minutes of submersion, and can be quickly refilled via an included hand pump.

According to founder David Hallamore, the Scorkl regulator uses the same technology found in regulators used by scuba divers around the world, and each Scorkl comes with a pressure gauge that indicates how much air is left. Possible uses: quick water emergencies (you dropped something in the ocean) and spear-fishing.
Skorkl is currently available starting at $150 on Kickstarter.*
