It’s called Whispers because it's full of secrets

There are plenty of ways for like-minded car owners to connect. Your local cars and coffee meetup is a good place to start, as are the innumerable online forums. But what if you don’t necessarily want to talk about the cars themselves, but the shared interests you have by owning a certain (ultra-exclusive) brand of car?

That’s where Rolls-Royce comes in. Today, the luxury British marque publicly launched Whispers, a social-media-like app only available to owners of new Rolls-Royce cars.

“Whispers offers transformative experiences, rare and desirable products, whimsical treasures and exclusive Rolls-Royce previews that are curated by Rolls-Royce and delivered directly to the fingertips of our global community,” said Torsten Müller-Ötvös, chief executive officer of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, in a press release. In other words, Whispers in part acts as a sort of concierge for owners to buy other expensive goods and experiences — and a marketing tool for the brand — but the more intriguing element is the connection between owners.

As the company notes, it developed Whispers to bring together “the marque’s worldwide client fraternity.” To do that, the app reportedly allows users to “liaise securely with fellow Rolls-Royce patrons,” whether that means sharing business opportunities, social contacts or their travel recommendations, like say, which superyacht dealer is the most reliable. The company doesn’t say anything about sharing memes, but that’s probably a given.

While we’d normally advise any Rolls-Royce owners against something like this — because an app specifically devoted to wealthy clientele sharing whispers seems ripe for hacking — the company did soft launch the app over two years ago to a small group, so hopefully they’ve already been troubleshooting any bugs.

As of today, Whispers is available in the U.S., U.K., the whole of Europe and the Middle East. But again, you have to be a new Rolls owner to access, so all you who scored a deal on a junker are out of luck.
