LeBron James Considers Talks With Golden State Warriors
Sources told ESPN LeBorn would only take the deal if the max salary slot is available.
LeBron James would be willing to set up a meeting with the Golden State Warriors if the defending NBA champions can create a max salary slot this offseason. There is no indication that the Warriors are evaluating such options to acquire the Cleveland Cavaliers All-Star at this time. James is expected to decline his $35.6 million player option this offseason and become an unrestricted free agent for the third time in his career. However, re-signing with Cleveland is not out of the question. The Warriors winning culture and strong organizational structure would be an enticement that most veteran players would consider. James’ distant relationship with the Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert has also been well-documented and the front office’s instability is of concern. The most realistic way for Golden State to acquire James would be a sign-and-trade scenario. The Warriors could be an offer around Klay Thompson and Andre Iguodala to match salary. However, Kevin Durant would need to decline his player option and take even less than his current annual salary of $25 million.
