Denver’s Von Miller Gives Advice on How to Beat the Patriots

Very few active NFL players can claim they know how to beat the Patriots. Star Broncos linebacker Von Miller was part of the last team to beat the Patriots in the playoffs, and he offers his free advice to the Eagles in the Players Tribune. Most importantly, beating Tom Brady requires a strong pass rush, and an efficient one too. Miller argues that pressuring Brady from both sides and eliminating his choice to step-up into the pocket is imperative, as is rushing only four defenders. Brady’s ability to read defenses makes blitzing five or six a mistake, Miller says. Brady’s ruthlessness takes a toll on defenses over the course of four quarters, making possible his famous late-game heroics. Though Philadelphia’s path to victory is bumpy, Von Miller believes the pass rush led by Fletcher Cox and Timmy Jernigan should give Eagles fans hope.
