Current Brooklyn Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie has always been one of the more social media-friendly NBA players, but he’s taking it to the next level with regards to his 2021 free agency. According to RealGM, the 27-year-old wing has opened a GoFundMe page that will allow fans to donate in order to help him decide his next NBA team.

Dinwiddie’s goal is to raise $24,632,630 — the equivalent of 2625.8 BTC bitcoins — and, if the goal is met, he will then sign a minimum contract with whatever team fans select. If the goal is not met, he will donate all the money he does receive to charity:

I’m simply creating this GoFundMe as my commitment to my previous tweets. As of now 2625.8 BTC is roughly equivalent to $24,632,630 USD. If we hit the target then I will allow the fan base to determine my next team decision and sign a one year contract at that destination. If we do not hit the target goal then I will be donating 100% of this campaign to charity.

Dinwiddie is under contract with the Nets until after next season, though he has a player option for the year after that. Before the NBA stopped play due to the coronavirus pandemic, Dinwiddie had been one of the few bright spots on a sluggish Nets team, averaging 20.6 points and 6.8 assists per game as he took over for the injured Kyrie Irving as the team’s focal point on offense.

While this is an admirable way to both increase fan engagement during a time with no basketball and also potentially raise money for charity, Dinwiddie’s GoFundMe has a long way to go: at press time, the page had only raised $944.
