James Comey Used LeBron James as Inspiration for Molding the FBI

"He illustrates what the endless pursuit of excellence looks like,” Comey said.

The ex-director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation didn’t learn about leadership by studying the Commander-in-chief, he learned about it by watching the King.

During a Tuesday morning appearance on “Good Morning America,” Comey said that, despite never meeting him, NBA star LeBron James is one of his role models and someone he drew inspiration from while leading the FBI.

Comey said he admires the 15-year NBA veteran and believes James is “the best basketball player on Earth today.” The former Fed also revealed he used to talk up James throughout the offices of the FBI and said the four-time champ “illustrates what the endless pursuit of excellence looks like.”

While trying to improve the FBI, Comey would even use James as an example and cite the way James measures his progress not against others, but against himself.

“I used to say inside the FBI, this is a great organization, but it’s not good enough. It can never be good enough,” Comey said. “We have to find parts of our game to make better. Look at LeBron James. That’s how I’ve used him as an example.”
