In his return to the field after suffering a season-ending knee injury last September, Jimmy G earned himself an “F.”

During three drives on Monday night against the Denver Broncos, Jimmy Garoppolo went just 1-for-6 for zero yards and an interception. The interception came on his second throw of the game and all of his first four throws were touched by Denver defenders and had the potential to be picked off, NFL.com reported.

It was an awful performance for the San Francisco quarterback and he finished his night with a 0.0 passer rating.

Backup C.J. Beathard replaced Garoppolo for the 49ers’ fourth series and helped lead San Fran to a 24-15 victory over the Broncos.

“Obviously a little frustrated but it’s the NFL,” Garoppolo said, via NBC Sports Bay Area. “Unfortunately, we don’t get to play the whole game right now so I only get so many plays. You wish you could be out there for more so we could bounce back. But it is what it is. It’s preseason right now, so we just have to take it in stride.”

Bad as the game was, practice hasn’t been much better for Garoppolo as he actually threw five consecutive interceptions during a practice session last week.

The former Patriot signed a five-year, $137 million contract last year and looked good at the start of the season prior to tearing his ACL in Week 3 against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Should the 27-year-old struggle this season, the 49ers could cut him without major salary cap ramifications as all of Garoppolo’s guaranteed money will be paid out following the end of the 2019-20 season.
