49ers Struck Gold With Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo

After 5-0 record as starter, he's being compared to Joe Montana and Tom Brady by The Ringer.

Forever linked with arguably the greatest quarterback of all time, Jimmy Garappolo is now winning over fans who grew up watching the second-best QB in NFL history. That’s because Garopollo is 3-0 since being handed the starting job in San Francisco — 5-0 as a starter overall, dating back to his stint in New England during Tom Brady’s suspension — making the second round draft pick the 49ers paid to get him look like a major steal. But of course, he wasn’t going to get to play for the Patriots anytime soon with Brady behind center.

The Ringer goes deep in explaining just why with a breathless piece that focuses almost as much on Garopollo’s GQ model looks as his stat sheet. The early returns show the signal-caller may join the San Francisco pantheon that includes Hall of Famers Joe Montana and Steve Young. Crunching the numbers and watching the tape, “it seems impossible, but the Patriots might have made a mistake.”
