“Fire Island” Star Joel Kim Booster Has the Most Relatable Threesome Take

The actor's threesome preferences recall some (still solid) advice from "Sex and the City"

When it comes to threesomes, this leading man would rather guest star, thanks.

As we’ve previously established, planning a threesome with your partner is often easier said than done. First there’s a bunch of mental and emotional preparation you have to do to make sure you’re both ready to invite a third person into your bedroom — and then of course you actually have to find that third person, which is usually the hardest part. It’s for these reasons — and probably many others — that I assume Fire Island star Joel Kim Booster prefers to skip all that labor and simply be the “guest star” in other people’s threesomes.

The actor shared his ménages à trois preferences in a recent interview with Page Six, explaining that threesomes have become a bit more complicated since getting into relationship. “Not that they’re out of the question now,” he told the outlet, “but it was a lot more fun being the guest star than it was logistically planning it as a couple.”

Booster even went as far as to call partaking in a threesome as part of a couple a “logistical nightmare” compared to the blissful simplicity of being a guest-starring third. “Before it was just sort of, you come in and you get the spotlight and then you leave,” he said, comparing it to being a guest star on a TV show. “You want to be a series regular, but you realize there’s a lot more responsibility in that.”

This is by no means a new take. In fact, it’s wisdom Samantha Jones handed down (in typically iconic fashion) in a season one episode of Sex and the City: “Only do a threesome as the guest star — the girl the couple gets to come in, screw and leave.”

While this advice may be a little reductive — arguably ignoring the joy many couples do find in having threesomes as well as the mental and emotional complexities of being a third — it’s still a pretty solid take. Obviously there are all sorts of benefits to planning and executing a threesome as a couple and it can be emotionally and physically rewarding and bring you closer together as partners etc., etc. But if you’re looking for less work, more play and less risk of blowing up your personal life, guest starring in someone else’s threesome is definitely the way to go.
