Jennifer Lawrence has taken her year-long sabbatical from acting in surprising directions, as she’s recently dedicated her time to fighting for anti-corruption legislation at the state level. The group Lawrence has been working with, Represent.Us, strives for bipartisan support to fight the political influence of lobbies and other mysterious sources of funding.

“Corruption doesn’t wear a political label and the American people know that,” the Hunger Games star told the crowd at a Represent.Us summit in New York this week. “Everybody expects more from their parties no matter the politician or the specific party.”

Before speaking on stage at the summit with Represent.Us managing director Josh Lynn, Lawrence told Gayle King that she started to think specifically about bipartisanship around 2016. “It could have been age, it could have been the election,” the actress-turned-advocate said. “I realized the most important thing that a political movement can have is support from the right and left,” she continued.
