Because every man needs a plan, and some of us need that plan with pretty pictures, we present Where to Take Her: a series that answers a gentleman’s most pressing lifestyle questions and recurs whenever we get around to it. This go-round: Beaches. Sally forth.
Your key:
Kauai – The St. Regis, Princeville, Kauai – Spielberg shot both Jurassic Park and Raiders of the Lost Ark on Kauai. Why? Because it’s gorgeous. Stay at the St. Regis for the softest sand beaches, stunning views of the verdant hills from your room and 18 holes of seaside golf.
Lake Powell – Lake Powell, Utah – Lake Powell has 186 miles of pristine waters and 90 different sandcastle-esque canyons to explore. Rent the Axiom Star Lake Yacht. Because yachting. On a lake.
Malaga Cove – Palos Verdes, CA – Malaga Cove is an excellent day trip, and it’s fairly secluded from the masses. Park at the top of Rancho Palos Verdes and hike the lush trail down to the sandy cove. Beforehand, grab a picnic basket from Del Rey Deli Co.
Orcas Island – Orcas Island, San Juan Islands – When you’re looking for something chill — like Pacific Northwest chill — head to the San Juan Islands in Washington State. The icy waters are pristine and full of orcas (natch). Stay at the quaint Outlook Inn.
San Onofre State Beach – San Onofre, San Diego County – Also known as Trestles, San Onofre is one of the best places to surf. It’s a bit of drive, but isolated enough that you’ll have plenty of space. You can also camp there.
Will Rogers State Beach – Pacific Palisades, CA – When you just need a quick beach day, head to Will Rogers State Beach. It has a stellar cleanliness record according to Heal The Bay, plus great views of the Malibu Hills. Grab lunch at the Reel Inn.
Windward Circle – Venice Beach, CA – For a more social shore, head to Venice Beach. Yes. Believe it or not, Venice recently received an A+ rating on Heal The Bay’s scorecard. Don’t let the hippies fool you — these waters are clean. After a dip, head down to The Bank for beers.
