Where You’re Going, You Don’t Need Roads

The 606 is here. Make it a date night.

  • 11 June 2015

This past weekend, the 606 that spankin’ new, nearly three-mile stretch of elevated park opened to the public, which means you can walk, run and bike all the way from Ashland Ave. to Ridgeway Ave., cutting through Wicker Park, Bucktown, Logan Square and Humboldt Park along the way. Makes for well-deserved beers and a charming date night. Here’s how to do it right.

Gear Up: BucketFeet
A walk like this requires a fresh pair of shoes — good thing hometown sneakerheads BucketFeet open their Chicago flagship today in Bucktown. Grand opening party details right here. Our new summer favorites: the tropical Savusavu. Walk out with a pair on, then hit the 606 from Churchill Field. It’s just a five-minute walk.

Roll Up: The 606
Start up top at Damen and Bloomingdale. Use this handy interactive map to spot art and noteworthy architecture as you work your way west. The views: straight-up neighborhood. Mind the bridge at Western and Milwaukee — it’s a popular waypoint.

Dine Out: Osteria Langhe
Whether you want to head down the California Access Ramp or go all the way to Ridgeway and double back, make your final stop Logan Square’s best-kept secret: Osteria Langhe. It flew under the radar of last year’s Italian openings spate, but it is devastatingly delicious (menu is right here). Refined Piemontese is the name of the game, and a glass of Brut and plate of snail confit sounds just about right for tonight.
