Pete Souza Joins Forces with 'House of Cards' for D.C. Photoshoot

Pete Souza is back photographing the president, thanks to Netflix. Well, not the real president.

Souza joined forces with Kevin Spacey, who plays the corrupt President Frank Underwood from House of Cards, and Michael Kelly, who plays Underwood’s righthand man. As part of a promotional stunt for Season 5 of the show, Spacey, Kelly and Souza wandered around the nation’s capital, taking pictures of the stars kissing babies, shaking hands, riding the metro and standing in front of the White House.

This is not the first time House of Cards has taken over D.C. as a publicity stunt. Last year, Netflix had an event at the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery to unveil a painting of the fictional POTUS by British artist Jonathan Yeo. Spacey was in attendance and so were members of the actual White House press corps.

Souza first started following presidents during Ronald Reagan’s administration and was President Obama’s official photographer for his entire presidency. He has recently been making headlines for posting images on his personal Instagram that seem to directly comment on Trump’s movements of the day.

His over eight years of experience made it pretty easy to track the fake president, but Souza did say he was shocked Netflix was granted access to shoot in the metro and in front of the White House.

All 13 episodes of the new season will be available for streaming on Netflix on Tuesday, May 30.
