Broadway star Laura Benanti has dropped by Stephen Colbert’s ‘Late Show’ four times to tout her impersonation of Melania Trump. But she assured audiences on Monday night — and elaborated in an interview with USA TODAY — that she doesn’t want her impression of the first lady to be interpreted as malicious.

“I do not want it to appear as if I am making fun of her. I think she’s beautiful. She speaks five languages,” Benanti said. “I do not mean it to be insulting to her or disrespecting to her.”
