Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough appeared on Morning Joe Friday to respond to the personal attacks President Trump directed at them Thursday in a pair of tweets that offended many.

“I’m fine,” Brzezinski said. “My family brought me up really tough. This is absolutely nothing for me personally. But I am very concerned as to what this once again reveals about the president of the United States.”

“We’re OK, the country’s not,” Scarborough said. “Yesterday was just another example of how deeply personal he is. He attacks women because he fears women.”

President Trump tweeted Thursday that “low I.Q. Crazy Mika” was “bleeding badly from a facelift” when she and Scarborough visited Mar-a-Lago three nights late last year, sparking outrage on and off the social media platform.

It wasn’t just left-wingers who were incensed; multiple GOP senators responded to the shocking tweets. “Obviously I don’t see that as an appropriate comment,”House Speaker Paul Ryan told reporters. “What we’re trying to do around here is improve the tone, the civility of the debate. And this obviously doesn’t help do that.”

Other Republican lawmakers took to the platform to tell Trump to scale back on the personal jabs.

“Please just stop. This isn’t normal and it’s beneath the dignity of your office,” GOP Sen. Ben Sasse of Nebraska tweeted Thursday.

“Do you want to be remembered for your tweets or your accomplishments?” tweeted Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska.

In addition to addressing the controversy via television, Brzezinski and Scarborough responded to the president in an op-ed piece for the Washington Post. The two of them addressed his accusations, commenting on his “obsession with women’s blood” and saying Mika has “never had a facelift.”

“If she had, it would be evident to anyone watching Morning Joe on their high-definition TV. She did have a little skin under her chin tweaked, but this was hardly a state secret,” the couple wrote.
