Watch out, pundits. Another political outsider may not be kidding around.
Kid Rock is a more serious contender for a U.S. Senate bid than he’s getting credit for, even with the sound bites stacked against him. Political analysts think the unfiltered artist would easily win the Republican nomination in Michigan if he decided to run, according to Politico.
Robert Ritchie, the musician’s real name, has about as much experience in politics as three would-be competitors. If anything, being a household name (albeit for raunchy reasons) for the last two decades has given the opportunity to articulate his platform—likely to resonate with Trump’s populist-minded supporters—without the scrutiny a typical politician might receive.
His path to the nomination will certainly be easier than it was for Trump in the Presidential election, but Rock’s potential contender, Democratic incumbent Debbie Stabenow, is a tough opponent. Although she’s blown by her competition in the last two elections, Politico reports Rock would be a challenge to her campaign strategy because he’s an unconventional opponent. That is, of course, if he even decides to run.
