Sometimes, journalists of a certain ilk rise to a level of fame equal to the subjects they’re writing about. In the print world, Rolling Stone‘s Jann Wenner comes to mind. Or Tom Wolfe.

As far as the digital publishing world is concerned, one name stands out: Nikki Finke.

The celebrity journalist, who launched Deadline.com in 2006, and became known for her hard-hitting, multi-source-laden journalism—some of the best of its day—appears to be back from the dead, per TheWrap.

After being unceremoniously fired from Deadline in 2013 by Penske Media Corporation (PMC), which owns and operates a number of print and online properties including WWD, Variety, Deadline.com, and HollywoodLife.com, Finke became somewhat of a mythic figure online. One announcement placed her at Mediaite, but her byline never appeared on the site.

Finke subsequently launched Hollywood Dementia and registered NikkiFinke.com, but had signed a non-compete with PMC, so was unable to continue her bread-and-butter.

TheWrap is reporting that she’ll return to Deadline as a columnist.
