Recently, we got our hands on the Blanket Hoodie and packed it for a weekend getaway in Stowe, Vermont, a wintry destination that would test its warmth, durability and comfort. Below, our thoughts on Outerknown’s latest piece, and why you might consider adding it to your wardrobe.
Comfort
You could make the argument that any hooded pullover is bound to be comfy, but the Blanket Hoodie capitalizes on comfort in ways you might not expect. Owned by pro-surfer Kelly Slater, Outerknown draws inspiration from coastal vibes in both style and substance. As such, the Blanket Hoodie feels similar in many ways to your favorite beach towel; it’s durable and heavy but soft enough to warrant hours upon hours of wear. For instance, we wore it after a day on the mountain without an undershirt, and the organic cotton delivered irritation-free warmth through drinks, dinner and an evening walk.
Durability
Durability might not be the first feature that comes to mind when considering a hoodie, but because Outerknown calls attention to the Blanket Hoodie’s resilience, we thought it best to see how it fared through travel. After stuffing it inside a duffel bag alongside ski equipment for over six hours, the heavyweight cotton resisted tears, abrasion, loose ends and unwanted wrinkles. We also tumbled the hoodie after soaking it with water on high heat — something you shouldn’t do with cotton — but it came out of the dryer feeling just as soft (and looking just as good) as it did when it went in.
Sustainability
As we turn our attention to brands that recycle, resell and repurpose old gear, it’s worth noting that Outerknown is also making an effort on behalf of the environment.
