Winter is coming next year.

The next installment in the Game of Thrones series, Winds of Winter, could be released soon as next year, George R.R. Martin said. The author told fans he was “months away” from finishing in the long-awaited penultimate title on his blog Saturday.

Martin responded to “truly weird” rumors swirling around the book that’s been in the works since 2011, The Guardian reports. “I don’t know which story is more absurd, the one that says the book is finished and I’ve been sitting on it for some nefarious reason, or the one that says I have no pages,” he wrote.

Fans have been waiting for the released of the forthcoming sixth novel since the release of the most recent installment, Dances with Dragons, which ended with multiple cliffhangers. Martin’s epic series, A Song of Ice and Fire, surged in popularity after it was adapted into the hit HBO series.

Another title from Martin, Sons of the Dragon, is in the works as well. The author said it was possible the anthology, set in the same Game of Thrones universe, may be released first.
