The Seven Best Vistas for Fireworks-Watching, Period

Yes, cocktails included

July 1, 2016 9:00 am

Two-hundred and forty years ago this Monday, our Founding Fathers gathered together, joined hands in unison and declared the original #Brexit.

Then somewhere down the line, someone equally astute figured out that ambitious pyrotechnic displays are a great way to commemorate that occasion. And you will see that display three days from now over the East River.

The only question: whence should a discerning gent watch?

Our answers(s)? Right here.

Yes, cocktails included.

The Essentials
On Monday, July 4, 2016, the Macy’s Fireworks will be visible over the East River after dark. They release from barges near Pier 17 and between 23rd Street and 37th Street. The show in Jersey City, displayed at Liberty State Park, also starts after dark. Both extravaganzas will run for approximately 30 minutes. Unless someone jacks it up.

The Places You’ll Go

Roof at Park South Hotel
Midtown East
Ultra comfy and offering unobstructed views, Park South is the perfect pyro pick. It’s spacious and relaxed with top-notch snacks and impeccable cocktails. The Duke’s Martini served with a side of caviar alone is reason enough to go.

Salvation Taco Rooftop
Midtown East
Pod. 39. Rooftop. Have you been? If not, you’re doing it wrong. It’s stunning. And there are going to be tacos. April Bloomfield tacos. Plus tunes from a DJ named Genius James? All the best things. Tickets will run you $30 and parties of right can reserve a table with a $50 minimum.

Manhattan by Sail
Battery Park
Forget the rooftops and set sail on a classic clipper ship. A good way to get up close to the action. There’ll be all-you-can-eat BBQ as you cruise past the Brooklyn Bridge and the Statue of Liberty. And just before the ‘works, the captain will strike the sails for an unfettered view of the show against the city silhouette.

The Water Club
Kips Bay
As close as you’ll get — but a better choice for those without the sea legs. There’s really no better place should you be craving a five-course feast, fireworks and fastening on a tie. Reservations are required.

Mr. Purple
Lower East Side
Mr. Purple, you punk, we’ve been waiting for this for a long time. When you threw open your doors in the dead of winter all we saw was an amazing terrace rooftop and a pool … that we couldn’t use. Until now. The time has come to enjoy those Casamigos Frozen Margaritas and watch some stuff blow up. They’ve got the view and some beats from one DJ Phresh.

PHD Rooftop Lounge at Dream Downtown
Meatpacking
Chandeliers, marble, velvet, the fashionista set (that means a lot of lovely ladies) and you. All on a big stretch of skyline gazing terrace. Reservations available and making ‘em wouldn’t be the worst idea.

Riverpark
Kips Bay
A big ol’ American BBQ Bash offering indoor and outdoor seating, ping-pong, cornhole and bocce for the competitive set. Sure, sure the fireworks will be fantastic, but so is this menu. They’ll be dishing out Wagyu Brisket, Pork Sausage and more at the Smoker Station. And at the Southern Station, you can go in on some Buttermilk Fried Chicken, Whole Roasted Pig and a smattering of traditional salads from potato to coleslaw and beyond.
