Ever heard of the phrase “Game recognizes game?” We imagine that was more or less how the Montblanc x Public School New York collaboration happened, in real time. The luxury heritage retailers, know for their classic designs and timeless appeal, have teamed up with wave-making streetwear-inspired Public School NY for a bag capsule honoring The Big Apple, while also branching into a newer and critically important endeavor for both brands: sustainability. The five-item collection features semi-ninja-esque, durable, and incredibly stylish options for all your bagging needs, sustainably built from the ground up.
When Montblanc say they’re crafting a conscious, eco-friendly bag, they mean it. The German retailers are dabbling in regenerated fabrics for the collection, utilizing a recycled nylon yarn called ECONYL that’s touted as an “infinitely recyclable” material. The whole capsule puts footprint at the forefront of design, somewhat miraculously without sacrificing on form or function. It’s a commitment they share with collaborators Public School New York, who are equally concerned with creating a sustainable future.
The collection features a duffle, waist bag, card holder, envelope and mini envelope bag. The majority of it is crafted with the aforementioned nylon, making the whole bag durable, sleek, and totally recyclable. The leather card holder (pictured immediately above) is the only exception: it’s sourced from grainy, acid green leather that’s undergone CO2-neutral tanning treatment. The whole collection screams, “I’m a badass, yes, but I also care about the planet.” And if that’s not your speed, we don’t know what to tell you. We can only hope to be rocking the Envelope Bag (pictured above) around NYC all season long, with the Duffle waiting in the wings for any extended travel we might have.
The Montblanc x Public School New York Collection starts at $320, and you can shop the entirety of the capsule here. Check out Montblanc for more immaculately crafted luxury options, and don’t forget: a good bag is hard to find.
