The Macallan Just Released a 72-Year Old Whisky

Months after debuting their unique and grand new distillery, the Macallan has another eye-opening release on the way.

The Genesis Decanter is a 72-year-old whisky (the oldest ever released by the brand) encased in a handblown Lalique decanter, inspired by the curvature of the new distillery’s roof. And since they have to pay for the new $250 million building, the single malt ain’t going cheap: with only 600 being produced, each bottle retails for $65,000.

So, is the spirit worth it? When it was announced back in May, The Macallan Master Distiller Nick Savage noted, “For its seventy-two years of maturation, the deceptively light colour hints that this is not an ordinary single malt … it carries an exquisite balance of strong, sweet oak with the peaty spirit shaping its refined character. The whisky delivers surprise after surprise as aromas of fruit follow distinctive hints of peat, all the way through to the back of the mouth where it is finished off with a lingering hint of rich fruit and oak.”

Certainly sounds rich.
