“Rarely seen. You will hear more soon.” That’s how Maserati teased its forthcoming 2022 GranTurismo on social media. It doesn’t get much more cryptic than that, but the handful of images of the revived (and literally electrified) Gran Turismo offer auto enthusiasts plenty to be excited about.

As Autoblog’s Byron Hurd writes, the 2022 GranTurismo and the drop-top GranCabrio are both slated to be all-electric. It’s a bold move for the automaker. The GranTurismo itself has been dormant since 2019, following a 12-year run.

The photographs of the prototype were taken in Moderna, near where Maserati’s Innovation Lab is located. Beyond these images — which are certainly evocative — there isn’t a host of information provided. In his Autoblog article, Hurd notes that the automaker is expected to use their Folgore powertrain in the vehicle.

Hopefully these advance looks at the GranTurismo herald more to come. For now, they hint at a significant step forward for Maserati, and an elegant entrant into the electric vehicle space.
