U.S. Wins First Olympic Hockey Gold in 20 Years in Overtime
The women's team beat out Canada.

The United States has won their first gold medal in Olympic women’s hockey, beating out Canada in overtime during a thrilling game. The U.S. took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Hilary Knight in the closing seconds of the first period, but then Canada scored twice in the second. Canada remained ahead until American Monique Lamoureux scored with only 6:21 left to play in the final period. But then the game went into overtime, and then finally into a shootout. There were five rounds of a shootout, with no one scoring, and in the sixth round, Jocelyn Lamoureux scored with a a filthy deke and American keeper Maddie Rooney stopped Meghan Agosta to lock up the win. The U.S. have not won a gold medal in women’s hockey since the first tournament at the 1998 Olympics in Nagano.
