Tom Brady’s Divorce Announcement Followed His Mascot Announcement

Possibly coincidental, but still — the timing's weird

On Friday morning, Tom Brady took to social media to announce that he and Gisele Bündchen had divorced “after much consideration.” In an Instagram story, Brady provided a brief message along with a request that their privacy be respected.

“We arrived at this decision amicably and with gratitude for the time we spent together. We are blessed with beautiful and wonderful children who will continue to be the center of our world in every way,” Brady wrote. “We will continue to work together as parent to always ensure they receive the love an attention they deserve.”

This news is not all that surprising, as rumors that the couple’s marriage was in trouble had been making the rounds for the last few weeks.

The timing of the official announcement of the divorce does have one curious footnote, however. You see, this was not Brady’s only announcement in the last 48 hours. BRADY, the performance wear company of which Brady is a founder, just announced the latest drop in its Forever Series — specifically, two shirts bearing the icon of Tommy the GOAT.

The description is also fairly straightforward: “Behind every great team, there’s a great mascot. Introducing Tommy the Goat. He’s not just any goat, but The GOAT. Through the highs and lows, the undisputed Greatest Of All Time embodies skill, passion and love for the game.”

That reference to “highs and lows” does seem a bit more pointed given Brady’s other announcement for the week. But if the timing is not coincidental, it also seems pretty straightforward — we’re a long way from, say, the numerology and code-breaking that surrounds some other recent celebrity announcements.
