Lakers Are Ready Deploy “Death Lineup” With LeBron at Center
LA reportedly wants to James on the floor with young players surrounding him.
When the Lakers hit the court next season, LeBron James will be at the center of LA’s lineup— literally, at times.
In order to replicate the famed “Death Lineup” (Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant, Andre Iguodala, and Draymond Green) the Golden State Warriors are able to deploy, the Lakers want James to play center and plan to surround him with four young players with high upsides.
“We may not see this on day one, but the coaching staff is eager to see our version of the [Warriors’] Death Lineup with Lonzo [Ball], Josh Hart, Brandon Ingram, [Kyle] Kuzma, and LeBron,” a Lakers executive told Bleacher Report.
The success of that lineup – which could also theoretically include Rajon Rondo or Lance Stephenson instead of Ball or Hart – would largely depend on James’ ability to handle playing center on the defensive end.
Given the inexperience of his teammates, James would have to lead the defense as well as match up against players who are bigger than him, something he isn’t very accustomed to.
Still, it’s an intriguing idea – at least on paper – and one NBA fans should be excited to see.
