To beat the great Bill Belichick and the five-time Super Bowl champs the Patriots, Eagles head coach Doug Pederson has to spend endless time on the game plan. Everyone is still shocked by the changeup game Pederson called in the 28-7 rout of the Vikings for the NFC championship last week. During the win over Atlanta, Pederson was arch-conservative with quarterback Nick Foles. But during the NFC game, Pederson was bombs-away for three quarters. He says that he thinks it was the best game he’s ever called. If the Patriots win the Super Bowl, it would be their sixth Super Bowl win and would tie Pittsburgh for the most ever. On the other side, the Eagles have never won a Super Bowl and last won an NFL title 57 years ago. Pederson understands that one of the major storylines leading up to the game is him versus Belichick. Pederson was a Louisiana high school coach 10 years ago, at a point that Belichick already had three Super Bowl rings. But one of Pederson’s pre-game strategies is the “faceless opponent.” No matter who the Eagles are up against, he does not focus on the names of the coaches or players. He wants his team to stay on track and focus on what’s important in preparing for the game.
