Bill Cowher got the surprise of a lifetime during the pregame show on CBS Saturday night (Jan. 11) when he was informed on-air that he’s going to be a member of the Hall of Fame’s 2020 class.

Pro Football Hall of Fame president David Baker came out to deliver the news to Cowher, and the former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach seemed to quickly realize what was happening, quipping, “This isn’t right that this is happening now.”

Cowher was then joined on set by his wife and daughter, receiving congratulatory hugs from them as well as members of the CBS crew. “I’m a blessed man, and I’ve been very blessed to be surrounded by some pretty special people,” he said.

The former coach is part of the Hall of Fame’s 2020 superclass to commemorate the NFL’s centennial season. He’ll be joined by 14 others in the class, which will consist of 10 seniors, three contributors and two coaches. The rest of the inductees will be announced Wednesday.

Congratulations to Cowher poured in on social media, including messages from current Steelers coach Mike Tomlin and Seth Meyers, who reminisced about playing Cowher in a 2005 Saturday Night Live sketch.
