Warner Bros. Wants to Build $100-Million Aerial Tramway to Hollywood Sign
People have long blamed the attraction for worsening traffic, parking issues, and disruptive tourists.
Warner Bros. has a plan to counter the complaints Angelenos have about the Hollywood sign — that is has worsened traffic, caused parking nightmares and leads to disruptive tourists. The 95-year-old studio is going to build a $100 million aerial tramway to transport visitors to and from the Hollywood sign, starting from a parking structure next to its Burbank lot. The tramway, which would be called the Hollywood Skyway, would take visitors on a six-minute ride more than 1 mile up to the back of Mt. Lee to a new visitors center near the sign. There would be pathways to a viewing area. The purpose would be to give selfie-seeking visitors a way to see the famous sign, without disturbing the residential neighborhoods located below it, like Beachwood Canyon.
Los Angeles has a bad reputation for traffic already, but it has worsened in recent years with the rise of social media like Instagram, ridesharing apps like Lyft and Uber and navigation services like Waze.
