Who needs a vacation? Sir James Goldsmith created an ecological oasis for his unorthodox family in Mexico. When the flamboyant billionaire died in 1997, his daughter Alix Marcaccini took control of the estate and opened a hotel a few years later.
Once hidden away from social media interruptions, the modern estate has opened its doors to the digital world which is attracting new customers in droves. The hotel, located in the Jalisco state of Mexico, is situated on the Pacific Coast featuring breathtaking views of the surrounding flora and fauna. More than 40 African zebra roam the island which is surrounded by thousands of mango and coconut trees, Vice reports.
Guests can stay in a variety of suites ranging from private villas to more conservative 1-2 bedroom suites. The hotel has private restaurants, pools, and beaches. Visitors can take a horseback ride on the shore, go mountain biking, or lounge by an infinity pool.
The hotel was created with the surrounding ecology in mind and is considered to be at the forefront of luxury-eco destination travel. Famous guests include Madonna, Gwyneth Paltrow and Mick Jagger.
