Those heart-shaped, pastel colored candies you’ve been handing out to classmates and significant others since 1847? They’ve been cancelled.

Sweethearts will be missing from grocery and drug store shelves this Valentine’s Day season — a direct result of the candy’s original producer, the New England Confectionary Company, also known as Necco, going out of business last year, CNBC reported.

That’s in spite of the fact that the conversation hearts were the most popular VDay treat in 2018, according to Candystore.com.

The rights to Sweethearts were bought by the Spangler Candy Company but, sadly, Spangler didn’t have enough time after the September acquisition to produce the candy for this February, according to CNBC.

“There are a lot of manufacturing challenges and unanswered questions at this point, and we want to make sure these brands meet consumer expectations when they re-enter the market,” Spangler Chairman and CEO Kirk Vashaw said in a statement, adding that the company hopes to bring them back next year.
