Sunday night, John Oliver warned viewers of his Last Week Tonight show that Chinese president Xi Jinping will fill the “vacuum” left on the world stage by President Trump. In the past year, the Asian leader abolished his country’s term limits and continues to amass political power internally. And now Xi is currently working on “two massive projects,” Time reports, including one that could alter global trade. But Oliver cautioned viewers that Xi, like Trump, is pushing a “man of the people” image, and to instead pay attention to what’s really going on in the country.

“China knows that no matter how badly they behave the world will still want to do business with them, like Facebook,” Oliver said.
