Amazon’s Alexa Sent a Man 1,700 Recordings From a Stranger
“Alexa, who the heck is this?!”
Amazon’s Alexa has placed orders made by birds, babies and other non-credit card carrying users, but now she’s sending audio recordings to strangers.
According to Popular Mechanics, 1,700 recordings were sent to a man living in Germany that originated from a stranger’s Alexa device. The man who received the files was attempting to access his own recordings at the time. Amazon emailed the user a download link which contained the stranger’s audio files, but they later removed the files from the link. Unfortunately, the man had already downloaded the files to his computer.
Amazon was able to contact both users involved to settle the matter: “We resolved the issue with the two customers involved and took measures to further optimize our processes. As a precautionary measure we contacted the relevant authorities,” the Amazon spokesman told German tech magazine c’t.
